Update on the GT1 class; last night (2-18-'09) Dave, Beau and I had our first test and tune at Rapid Raceway. The news is very good!!!!!
Dave had his Tifosi chassis set up with a stock super 16D. He ran well, but we decided the super 16D is not the way to go.
Beau didn't have a body done and so ran just the Scholer chassis with the Falcon seven motor with a very low gear ratio,(he could pull stumps with it). At that set up he was mostly spinning and burning rubber down the straight, losing a lot of time. He opted to add some lead to make up for no body on the chassis, it helped but was not a true test.
I had a complete car ready to go. I have the Scholer chassis with the Falcon seven motor and 4 to 1 gear ratio. I was running at 5.2sec. and the motor was over heating to the point of smelling like it was about to burn down, but I finally got in the high 4 second range. I decided to change from a 10 tooth pinion to and 8 tooth. Wow, what a difference! I quickly ran the time down to a best of 4.6714sec. The motor was runnig cool and the car was really hooked up! The chassis is stock except with .064" brass pan on the sides and a 1.5"x 1.0"x.064" brass pan under the front axle. I have bearings in the back axle and bushings up front. The total weight of the car is 7 and 3/4oz.
So far the rules are; bearings or bushings in the back, bushings only in front. 1/8th or 3/32nd. axles. At least a minimum 1" tires front and rear. Bodies to be used so far are the bodies on this page, that could change as I learn about appropriate bodies for the GT1 class. .047" front clearance and .055" rear clearence. Guide flag must stay behind the bumper out of sight. All glass that comes with the kit must be used as well as all exterior bumpers, tailights, wings etc. You can add braces to the wing, (I rolled my car completly over and the wing with it's extra braces held up just fine, amazingly, so did the mirrors).
All three of us were very pleased with these first results, beyond my expectations. Racing conditions could see this class be on the back bumpers of NASCAR!!!! Amazing!!!!
We will do more test sessions in the future and have more rules set up and keep you all posted.

That Ford Motorcraft Mustang work's for me.. I re-did my chassis to be just like Howie's with two 064.brass side pans, but I made my own bolt and nut body mount so I can adjust each side from front to back.. It is a "L" shape bracket 1/2" wide that is sloted to move on the pan. Using the body mounts that came with the chassis it can only be moved in or out and not side to side to make the pins fit right. The GTP Mustang has scoops hole in the side of the body in differant places and the pins just can't be put in the same place on both sides of the body. Now Howie how do you glue the pins inside the body in the right place? What kind of glue did you use so they will stay in a crash? Larry
